This is a warning for anyone who has one of these two.
As we discovered from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Toyota Supra as well as BMW Z4 have been subject to a safety recall. Although no deaths or injuries were reported, this recall is very important and could lead to fire.
The fault is listed as NHTSA Campaign No 20V700000. It lies in the incorrectly welded fuel tanks of BMW Z4 and Toyota Supra models made between April 19, 2019 and July 16, 2020.
The NHTSA documents indicate that the NHTSA may have not followed specifications for the weld between the two fuel tanks. A fuel leak could occur due to the incompatibility of the weld. This could cause a fire if an ignition source is present. The solution is simple: the fuel tank will be free of charge.
The safety recall could potentially involve 49 units – 14 BMW Z4s, 35 Toyota Supras, and all are believed to have the defect. Although the VIN range affected was not disclosed in the documents however, if you have any suspicions that your two-seater sports coupe may be affected by the recall, please contact your dealer immediately. Owner notifications will be made on January 4, 2021.
Since the last recall of the Supra or Z4, it has been nearly a year. Seven Supras were subject to a recall in September 2019 due to defects in the seat belt guide loop mount. Due to problems with the backup camera, nearly all BMWs were recalled in September 2019. 245 Z4, 3 Series and Supra units were recalled because of failing headlights.
