AWD versus RWD, 2.0 versus 3.0.
The new Supra is fast, it’s true. The coupe is powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged engine from the BMW Z4, which produces at least 335 horsepower (250 megawatts). The power is actually even greater. This basically means that the car is much more powerful than the Golf R. Following the facelift the latest generation hatchback comes with a 2.0-liter turbo TSI motor. It generates 306 horsepower (228 kW). There is a difference in the displacement, cylinders and power between them. Drag racing isn’t all about power. The Supra should run faster from 0-60 miles per hour (0-96 km/h) than the Golf R’s 4.8 seconds. The Supra’s speed is only a matter of paper. The Golf has shown it can run at a faster pace than Volkswagen claims with times of 4.4 to 4.5 seconds for the 0-62mph (0-100 km/h) run. This makes the difference between them very small, and any slight error by the drivers at the start line could make or break the race. This is exactly what happened here.
