According to the report, the strange model will debut in October and sales will begin in 2020. The TJ Cruiser concept was first presented at 2017 Tokyo Motor Show. The exterior is boxy and van-like, with a focus on usability. The front and second rows fold down flat to load items up to the dashboard.
Best Car states that the production version will be slightly shorter than the Toyota CHR crossover, but taller to increase interior volume. The production variant may switch to sliding doors for accessing the second row, unlike the concept. Toyota will reportedly offer the TJ Cruiser with two- or three-row interior layouts. Both would be able to fold flat, so owners could load their gear into the cabin.

According to reports, the powertrain options include Toyota’s 1.8-liter hybrid-assisted four cylinder from the Prius or Corolla Hybrid. This setup is only available with all-wheel-drive. A 2.0-liter four-cylinder would also be available. Buyers would have the option of choosing between all-wheel drive or front-wheel drive.
People who need to transport a lot of stuff but don’t have the space for a larger vehicle may find a small van useful. The TJ Cruiser is not mentioned in this report as being available outside Japan. It rides on the familiar TGNA platform, and has powertrains that are already available in American models, so there isn’t much stopping Toyota from bringing this model to America.
