Although the new Ponam-28V sports cruiser may have a slow SUV motor, it is very fast.
Toyota unveiled the latest edition of its Ponam range, a 28V sports cruiser powered by a Land Cruiser motor.
The turbo diesel engine is found in , the Land Cruiser Prado SUV, and Hilux pickup trucks. The Ponam-28V has 256 horsepower (191kilowatts) and was specifically tuned for marine use. Although Toyota does not give a speed figure, the Ponam-28V is very light at 8,025 pounds (3.640 kgs). This means it can go through water at an impressive speed.
Toyota’s Hybrid Hull construction is responsible for the low weight. The hybrid hull’s V-form shape is made of a mixture of aluminum and carbon fibers, as well as fiber-reinforced polymer. Toyota claims that the result is a hull seven times stronger than one made only from FRP and 10% lighter than an aluminum hull of similar size.
The 28V measures just under 30 feet (9.14 m) in length and 10 ft (3.13 m) wide. It can hold 12 people. Two small sofas are located on either side of the table, one large chair and a double bed at the helm station. The boat’s aft deck, which is relatively large for its size, has fold-out furniture.
The boat’s control system is based upon in-car systems. This makes it easy to pilot in calm waters or in coastal areas. The boat is equipped with a virtual anchor, which holds it over a fixed point.
The 28V, like its brothers in the Ponam Series, was built by Yanmar. Although it is currently only available in Japan, anyone who is interested would be able get one shipped anywhere in the world. Prices start at 19.2 Million Yen ($183,000). Toyota hopes to sell 24 units through its network of 50 dealers.
Toyota stated that it will continue to promote its marine business by developing attractive products to help people live fulfilling lives.
Is it possible that remit will cover a speedboat driven by the 477 hp (356 kW) 5.0-liter V8 of the Lexus RC F
