The driver sustained only minor injuries.
The ” Frog Capital of the World” is what people often call Rayne, a small town with just over 7,300 residents in Louisiana. It’s a quiet place with a total area of 3.8 square miles (9.9 square kilometers), of which 0.0077 square miles (0.02 square km) is water. According to the 2020 United States census, the city has just 2,834 households, and the I-10 interstate highway acts as their only exit. It is a busy section of the interstate line where a weird single-vehicle accident happened last Thursday, March 17.
Rayne Police Department received a Facebook message reporting about a 2011 KW tractor trailer that left the roadway. The trailer and tractor drove down an embankment and then jumped over large intersections before finally coming to rest on private property. After the accident, the truck caught on fire and the Rayne Volunteer Fire Department quickly arrived to put out the flames. The tractor driver was able to escape the accident with only minor injuries. He is said to be in good health.
The Rayne Police Department has released footage that shows the accident. The crash is being investigated by the police at the intersection about a quarter mile away. There have not been any updates. The video shows that either the driver fell asleep or lost control of his tractor-trailer because of a mechanical problem. There are many possible reasons for the accident, but these are only speculations based on footage.
In recent years, the I-10 has been quite busy and there have been many reports of serious accidents along its length. Jalopnik remembers that there was another serious accident last week, when a passenger truck collided into the back of a camper-trailer. Both lanes of I-10 westbound were closed near Louisiana.
