It will be raced by him, too.
Travis Pastrana, Hoonigan and Subaru revealed a modified Subaru GL wagon earlier this year. We now know that the Subaru GL wagon with a long roof will be making its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The specs are what we are most excited about.
Subaru loaded the GL with an 862-horsepower (634 kilowatts) boxer four-cylinder motor, paired with a six speed sequential gearbox, and all-wheel drive. Subaru does not detail the modifications. The body was made from carbon fiber and mounted on a high-tech tubular spaceframe.
Active aerodynamics is one of the wagon’s most distinctive features. The GL has a large rear aero wing that is used in conjunction with the hydraulic aero flaps at the front and rear. A carbon-fiber roof rack with a function is added to direct the air through a NACA conduit on the roof, which feeds it to the radiator at the rear.
KMC Wheels are a custom, one-of-a-kind, forged monoblock KMC Wheels that sit between the ground & the World Rally Championship-spec long travel suspension. Subaru designed them after the eight-spoke Subaru model from 1980s.
Retro inspiration is also found inside the vehicle. Subaru installed an authentic radio from a 1983 GLwagon into Pastrana’s recreated dashboard. The recreated dash was made of blue carbon fiber, a nod to the original blue dashboard. A 12-inch digital instrument cluster is also featured on the car, which displays retro gauges.
The 1983 Subaru Subaru GL wagon will be unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. It runs from June 23 to June 26. Pastrana will be driving it in the hillclimb competition. Pastrana placed second in the overall competition last year. The wild Subaru will be seen in the Gymkhana video.
