The Porsche 911 Turbo S and BMW M3 are among the most popular German performance cars. The Porsche is faster but more expensive. The BMW has a stage 1 tune which somewhat balances the odds.
Upgrades on the M3 It can produce 600 horsepower (447 Kilowatts) instead of the Competition’s 503 HP (375 kW), in the US. The factory’s torque is 479 lb-ft (650 Nm) higher than the Competition model’s 553 lb-ft (553 Newton-meters). The eight-speed automatic transfers the power to both axles. The BMW is quite heavy at 3,924 lbs (1,780 kg). Although the 911 TurboS stock model is available, it has impressive specifications from the factory. The American version boasts a twin turbocharged flat-six engine of 3.8-liters making 640 horsepower (477 kW) & 590 lbft (800 Nm). The output is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed dual clutch gearbox. This one is 3,616 lbs (1,640 kg).
The 911 Turbo S driver reacts slow to the start of the drag race. This allows the tuned M3 to gain an early lead. Although the Porsche gains ground towards the end, it is not enough to win the quarter-mile. The 911 Turbo S driver takes the lead and starts the race. The M3 cannot keep up with the Porsche and so the Porsche wins.
To determine the real winner, the guys race in a third drag race. Although the 911 Turbo S wins a second win, the gap between it & the M3 is smaller this time. The 911 Turbo S runs the quarter-mile in 10.3 seconds. It takes 10.6 seconds for the M3 to cover this distance.
Next is a half-mile roll race at 50 mph (80 km/h) in the most comfortable conditions. The Porsche wins easily. They run the cars in manual mode again. The BMW is better, but not enough to win. The braking test is at 100 mph (161 km/h). To give the Porsche another victory against the BMW, it stops in a shorter distance.
