How does an extra horsepower make a difference?
The BMW M5 blurs between sporty and classy by offering supercar-level power figures in a four door, three-box package. The M5 Competition, the most powerful model in the range, isn’t even the best. The M550i, which has the same engine but is slightly modified for BMW reasons, also exists.
How does this power gap affect your performance? The drag racing video uploaded to YouTube by Carwow will show you. The British website even added a wildcard to the comparison.
The modified BMW M5 tuned is here, thanks to Evolve. Although it looks simple from the outside, the engine is a completely rebuilt unit with new intakes, forged pistons, and other what-nots. What is the final power output? 1000 metric horses (735 Kilowatts) and 800 pound-feet (1.100 Newton-meters). That’s a lot power and a beautiful-sounding exhaust.
The BMW M5 Competition has 617 horsepower (460 kW) as well as 553 lbft (750 Nm), pulling power from its twin-turbo S63 V8 engine. The M550i on the other side, however, has 523 horsepower (390 kW) with the same torque figures.
As we all know, it’s not about numbers and figures. Launching is important, especially when dealing with a lot of power on damp ground. All of these cars transmit power to all four wheels so they are literally on the same ground as each other in terms of traction.
Watch the drag race video to see what I mean. And, more importantly, you will be able to see the impact that extra horsepower can have on your racing experience.
