Wimmer refreshes VW Touareg with some upgrades, including a diesel power boost.
The second-generation Volkswagen Touareg was introduced in 2010. While it will take a while before an entirely new model is available, tuners are working to make the SUV’s midsize SUV more appealing by updating it. Wimmer Rennsporttechnik, which worked on the 3.0-liter TDI TDI V6 engine, came up with a software optimization that increased output by 204 hp and 332 lbft (450Nm) to 240 hp and 177 kW (525 Nm).
Wimmer has developed a stronger power package for the six-cylinder engine. It will increase output to 310 horsepower (228 kW) as well as 443 lbft (690 Nm). This white Touareg will get the new ECU. It sits on 21-inch alloy wheels in black and has a KW coilover suspension system. A custom-made aftermarket exhaust system will give the modified SUV a more powerful sound.
Although the tuner doesn’t speak to the Touareg’s performance, the extra punch will cut a few tenths off the sprint time of 0-62 mph (100 kph), which usually takes 8.7 seconds. The top speed of the V6’s 204-hp version could see a slight increase to 128 mph (206 km/h), which is also available in a 262-hp variant.
