TVR Sagaris Resurrection From The Dead in Kit Car Form

Is a tribute band better than the original? Maybe…

The TVR Sagaris was last chance for Russian-owned TVR in the 2000s, before the British sports car manufacturer died.

Fortunately, TVR has returned, as are the Sagaris.

TVR was not the company that produces the Griffith today. Instead, TVR used to make kit cars from the factory.

It is easy to recreate those cars like the 2005 Sagaris (pictured). One company even offers a kit for a brand-new Sagaris.

Grex Automotive has given the Sagaris another chance. The Sagaris GT is now called the Sagaris GT. Although we don’t know how much “Grand Touring”, you’ll be doing, it remains true to the original. It has no ABS, traction control or airbags.

TVR is back in business

Grex kits come in 14 stages. This allows the owner to build it at their pace. However, shipping costs will increase significantly if you buy all the parts separately. The chassis and bodywork are the first four stages. Next comes the steering, brakes, suspension, cooling, lighting, windows, wheels, and the interior, which can be set up in either left- or right-hand drive.

“What about the engine?” You ask. Grex will not supply one, that’s the long and short of it. This kit was designed to fit General Motors crate V8s such as the LS3 and the inline-six, but Grex will gladly make it work with other types of power units if you pay a little more.

You should stop reading this if you really want one. Grex is only building 10 units for 2019, and it’s fully legal in the U.S. (unlike their factory-original), so you’ll have more competition than what you might expect. Motor Authority reports the cost of the kit at $58,070. This is a significant discount from the original. However, it doesn’t include the engine, gearbox or elbow grease required to build it.

Here you have it, if your goal is to create a dangerous, poorly built British sports car in the 2000s, today is your lucky day!
