Yesterday, we showed post-fire photos of next-gen NSX at the Nurburgring. Now we show images with the prototype as it burns. According to our sources, the fire began at the back after two explosions of batteries. The flames then spread onto the rest of vehicle. This NSX is a complete loss. But what matters most is that the driver pulled over at Pflanzgarten to escape with no injuries.
This media exposure may affect the NSX’s image a bit. However, fans of the original NSX are still eagerly anticipating the second generation, especially since it will be a much more refined version of the car.
The 2015 Honda/Acura/NSX will have a V6 engine at the rear and two electric motors at the front. This is part of the Sport Hybrid Super Handling All Wheel Drive system (SH-AWD). It also features a third motor that has been integrated into a new dual-clutch gearbox.
Honda R&D Americas developed the NSX. It follows a few of its namesake concepts. The NSX will enter production in Ohio next year. Honda has invested 70M USD in a new Performance Manufacturing Center.
