Unicat’s latest loft can ‘Crab Walk’

It is practically a house on wheels.

Although we’ve seen many motorhomes as well as expedition vehicles, this Unicat one is the most impressive. Unicat, a German motorhome builder, calls it the IN36HD. It’s much more than a big blob of metal you lift off the grid.

You might initially think this truck is a Volvo FH12 truck in an odd orange-brown two-tone theme. But it has so much more inside.

Unicat used a Volvo truck base and added four independent suspensions with hydrostatic systems. This makes Unicat very outdoorsy. It also comes with a 4-wheel steering system.

It’s possible to recognize the four-wheel steering system on the GMC Hummer EVO and its Crab Walk feature.

The Unicat IN36HD is able to perform the same maneuvers that the Hummer returning can. This is a very practical feature considering its size. The truck is 8,775mm (345.5″) in length, 2,492mm (98.1″) wide, and 3,976mm (156.5 inches tall). You can also add a bike rack to extend the length by 580mm (22.8 inches), and a retractable grill to cook some sausages and franks.

The IN36HD can be fueled with fresh water or fuel tanks, and has a curb weight up to 37,920 pounds (17.200 kilograms).

It gets even more interesting inside the truck. The Unicat’s latest model has a lifting roof that transforms the vehicle into a loft-style living space. The Unicat has plenty of space and opens up to several windows when the roof is lifted. This motorhome can be used as a living space, with six people inside and two permanent beds.
