The reveal will not take place until October.
Although the BMW M2 will not debut until October, a pair unofficial renderings show that it is already in production. The new high-powered coupe will be aggressively designed and should look like a sports coupe, if renderings from Kolesa.ru match.
These renderings show the car without the camouflage wrap it wore earlier in the month . The renderings show a sleek, athletic looking two-door. The grille, headlights and lower bumper opening are all squared off, as well as the intakes. This is a significant change from the M240i and will make the stand out from other models. The rear rendering shows the coupe with its unique rear bumper and quad exhaust pipes.
BMW isn’t giving us any details about the powertrain output of the car, but we know that it will come with the S58 engine from the M4. The twin-turbo, inline-six will not produce the same power. BMW plans to limit it to 450 horsepower (335kilowatts), although BMW has not been forthcoming about official numbers. BMW doesn’t want M2 to eat into the sales of M3 or M4, which produce 473 horsepower (352kW).
The brake systems of the M4 will be borrowed by the M2, which should give ample stopping power. BMW will only route power to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox, or an eight-speed M Steptronic automated transmission. BMW will offer the M2 with an aluminum-fiber roof. This will reduce weight and lower its center gravity. BMW claims that the new M2 will be nearly identical to the M2 CS.
BMW will offer carbon-fiber seats as an option inside, and information to the driver via the latest iDrive 8 system. BMW will customize it with M-specific graphics.
It’s still several months before BMW unveils the new M3 in full, but there are many things we know. We expect that the company will continue to tease us about the two-door model leading up to the October debut. The car will not be available for sale until April 2023.
