Some photos are stunning
Amazing photos and video taken by the Indianapolis Fire Department show the blaze that caused 40 car deaths in Indianapolis, Indiana. At 1:46 AM, firefighters arrived at the spot where Insurance Auto Auctions houses vehicles. Although this may seem like a typical local news story, the incredible photos make it special. The Indianapolis Fire Department has a talented photographer. The fire broke out deep within the auto yard so firefighters had to use tanker trucks for water to extinguish the flames. They also created large pools and pumped out the water. By 3:26 AM, the Indianapolis Fire Department had everything under control. There were no injuries.
Firefighters are still investigating the cause of this fire. The department said that lightning could have set off the fire. CBS4 Indy. An earlier thunderstorm had moved through the area in the evening. The above video really helps to put things in perspective. The scene is reminiscent of Terminator 2’s opening sequence, with the cars that have been burned to the side by the ones that are still burning. The night sky is filled with smoke and flames. Some vehicles aren’t identifiable anymore. To pull vehicles off the ground, the fire department used a long-range forklift. Other times, the machine lifted vehicles so firefighters could reach the areas that were on fire more easily. Although it is a shame that any car was destroyed, this is the best situation. They were all waiting to be auctioned so that no one was left without a vehicle. The lot owner had insurance so there hasn’t been any loss to the business other than the time it took to clean this mess up.
