UPDATE: Tesla will offer ‘Camper Mode’ as a Cybertruck accessory This sounds like a wonderful way to explore the country. Elon Musk delivered on his promise and stunned the world by launching the Tesla Cybertruck tonight. Although its design is the most controversial since… well, ever, there are many other details that make this truck stand out. One of the most exciting features is the possibility to set up a camping setup with a tent and an outdoor kitchen. Tesla may offer such an option. This is based on an image that the Cybertruck was set up for camping and that was part of the official batch that the company released. This image may only show the possibilities of how to upfit the Cybertruck. Tesla knows that overlanding is a very popular use for the Cybertruck and will be one of its most sought-after uses. The official image shows the Cybertruck parked in Northern California’s giant redwood and cedar forests. The truck’s tonneau cover is removed and a tent is placed over the bed. This extends the A-pillar line all the way to its back. This new outline creates a living area in the truck’s bed that allows one to sleep or sit up. Rivian, a competitor in built-in kitchens, showed for its R1T trucks earlier this year. Tesla also has an outdoor kitchen that extends from underneath the truck bed. The kitchen looks like it has a two-burner electric stove, and ample counter space for preparation. But there is no sink or cooler. This is just one image that Tesla released, with no context or details as to what it might mean. However, it does set our minds racing as we think about Cybertruck as a platform to overland and what kind of rigs might be possible. The Cybertruck won’t be in production until late 2021, and the 500-mile version will not arrive until 2022. There is plenty of time to plan.
