This is the most peaceful drag race you’ve ever seen.
Drag racing is a competition of straight-line speed. Although not always conclusive they often give an indication of how fast and quick the cars are at a distance. Usually, it is a quarter-mile (400m).
What if competitors are slower? This is what we have. It’s a battle of the Mahindra e2o and Citroen Ami – three urban mobility providers from different eras, but more importantly, machines that weren’t designed for speed.
The UK’s How Car? organized the drag race. It was slow and deliberate. This could be the slowest drag race that we have seen, beating even the matchup between the Suzuki Samurai, and the Volkswagen Beetle.
The Mahindra E2o compact electric vehicle is powered by a 15.5-kWh battery and an electric motor with 42 horsepower (31 kilowatts). The range is 75 miles (120 km) and the top speed is 63 miles an hour (101 km per hour).
We’re all familiar now with the Citroen Ami, a two-seat quadricycle which arrived in the US as an e-rental. It has a battery life of 5.5 kWh and a range of 47 miles (75 km). The electric motor only puts out 8 horsepower.
The Sinclair C5 is the oldest, and was introduced in the 1980s. The only thing worth noting is that it can travel at staggering speeds of 15 mph (24.4 km/h).
The Sinclair is obviously the strongest, but the Sinclair is also the lightest. However, the Mahindra has the best chance to win, but who knows? Which one of these slow ponies won the straight-line contest, and which was it? To find out, watch the video at the top of this page.
