US-Bound VW ID. Buzz LWB Tested For The First Times

It will be coming to America in 2024.

The ID was revealed by Volkswagen in early 2017. The Volkswagen-based automaker, Buzz, promised that the electric bus would be available in the United States. It won’t happen until 2024, so it is only two years before we see it on this side of the great pond. We have spy photos of the vehicle and work has begun in Europe on the US-bound model. The ID’s early mule can be seen in the gallery. It has a long wheelbase of Buzz and was captured by our photographers while it was undergoing snow trials in Northern Europe. It still has a body that reminds us of the VW T6 van. This is something that the brand did with its regular ID. Buzz – we are certain that this is the longer version. The ID is slightly shorter than the prototype, as you can see. Buzz is the expected length of the final LWB model. The extended wheelbase will allow up to three rows to be installed. They will be mounted on rails that will allow them to move in different directions. The extended wheelbase will allow for more space for a larger battery, although nothing has been confirmed.

Reports have suggested that the ID. Buzz LWB may be able to purchase a larger, 111-kWh battery pack. Standard variants have a 77-kWh capacity, but it is possible that a lower-end version with a 58 kWh (both total capacities) is in development. The longer battery may only be available for the longer version. This is expected to arrive on the US market in the first half 2024. The ID will be the first to be launched by Volkswagen. Buzz LWB will be launched in Europe next year. This means that prototypes with production bodies will likely start to appear very soon. We are actually a bit surprised that the automaker uses a mule to build this new LWB model, considering the design of the electric bus has been revealed.
