Vanderhall Carmel Teased as More Luxurious, Vintage Tinged Trike

It has doors!

Vanderhall is developing a three-wheeled machine called the Carmel. This trike maker considers it the most luxurious vehicle in its range, with amenities such as doors and prices starting at $39,950.

The Carmel is listed with a 1.5-liter powerplant, where previous Vanderhall’s used a turbocharged four-cylinder 1.4-liter. The company lists the output at 200 horsepower (149kilowatts) & 203 pound-feet (3275 Newton-meters), instead of 200hp (271 Nm) and 200lb-ft (271 Newton-meters) from the smaller mill. The engine of the Carmel can be connected to a six speed automatic. Additional driving aids include electric power steering and dual-servo brakes with ABS.

Vanderhall has packed some comfort amenities into the Carmel, despite the Carmel’s minimalistic use of only two seats and three tires. It is also wider than other company vehicles. A heater is a standard feature, which can be useful during cold, autumn drives. You can also get heated seats and a Bluetooth-enabled sound system. The steering wheel is wooden. Buyers can add air conditioning or what Vanderhall calls “removable canvas shade” to their vehicle. This covers the head of the occupants but leaves the sides open.

The Carmel weighs in at 1,600 pounds (726 kg). The company’s Venice Roadster, which weighs in at 1,375 pounds (624 kg), starts at $29,000.

Vanderhall now accepts $1,000 online deposits to the Carmel. According to the company, deliveries will begin in 2019.
