At SEMA, the Toyota sports car powered with a Ferrari V8 engine is on display.

Many believe the Toyota 86, also known as the Scion FR–S and Subaru BRZ, is a great sports car. Some people find the 2.0-liter flat four engine of the Toyota 86’s 2.0-liter flat-four underpowered and feel that it needs more power. Ryan Tuerck, a pro drifter, seems to agree. He worked with Gumout Media and Donut Media in order to give this 86 way, way more horsepower than stock. The result is the GT4586.

The secret to this is that the standard flat-four engine was replaced by a Ferrari 4.5-liter V8. This engine produced 562 horsepower (419 megawatts) in Ferrari’s 458 Italia, a significant improvement on the Toyota’s stock Toyota’s 200-hp (149 kW) rating.

It wasn’t a simple task to fit the engine. The exhausts must exit the car in front of the engine, bundling ahead of the front fascia, and then exiting on either side. The intake manifolds must be higher than the car’s roof line and the intakes have to pass through the base of windshield.

Drift cars aren’t exactly like stock vehicles, but they can be fun to drive. For example, the GT4586 has a stripped interior that includes a roll cage, bucket seats, bolt in fender flares and completely custom suspension. It also features upgraded brakes and other modifications required to pull big slides.

No matter what you think about this engine swap, there is one thing certain: this Toyota 86 is not underpowered.
