The affordable EV already looks good even before it is released to the public.

New spy footage suggests that the Tesla Model 3 production version could look almost identical to the prototype made in 2016. Tesla plans to begin assembly of the affordable electric vehicle in July. The silver model in this video is already ready to be seen at one its stores.

This clip shows the Model 3 driving around an office park, where SpaceX and Tesla operate. The Model 3 generally drives at a low speed but eventually gets on the road.

On February 20, , Tesla began building pre-production units of the Model 3. This video shows one of them. These EVs are being tested by the company before they are assembled for public consumption.

Tesla employees and investors will get first access to the Model 3s once production begins in July. High-volume assembly to satisfy the hundreds of thousands reservations begins in September.

Tesla hopes that the Model 3 will be its mass-market EV. The vehicle should be priced at $35,000. It should offer a range of minimum 215 miles (346 km). The vehicle should have a starting price of $35,000. Standard examples should reach 60 mph (97 km/h) in six seconds. Tesla’s cutting-edge Autopilot system will also be available. An optional solar roof and a version with Ludicrous Mode might make the car even faster.

The Model 3 will be competing with other low-cost EVs. The Chevrolet Bolt is a good example of a EV that has had a long lead time to attract buyers. The next-generation Leaf will be shown by Nissan in September and should go on sale in 2017.
