Soon, the Convertible will be a reality.
It’s only a matter time before we see the BMW 8 Series convertible. It will most likely happen before the end of the year, but we have a rendering and an interesting bonus to show you. It is easy to envision the 8 Series Convertible. This is due to the fact that it will almost share its entire body with 8 Series Coupe. The successor to the 6 series Convertible will have a retractable soft roof, but almost every detail will be the same as the coupe.
Because the hard top and the underpinnings are the same, the same powertrains will also be available. The car will come with either a 4.4-liter biturbo-V8 engine that produces 523 horsepower (390 Kilowatts) or a 3.0-liter biturbo diesel inline-six with 315 HP (235 kW) and 500 lb-ft (680Nm) of torque. The motors are standardly mated to an eight speed automatic gearbox. In the future, a fully-fledged M variant will be available.
The Convertible will join the 8 Series’ resurrected family. It was shown off in Geneva in a concept and we know almost everything about its design. However, XTomi has another rendering that shows a fourth model from the 8 Series lineup: a shooting brake. We have not heard from the Bavarian manufacturer regarding such a vehicle at this time. However, it could theoretically be a great addition to the range. The 8 Series Coupe’s aggressive front end is complemented by a sleek rear hatch and a long flat roofline. Imagine a large V8 or V12 under the hood and you’d be driving a truly unique beast wagon.
