VW is currently looking for a solution.
Volkswagen is quite aggressive with its 2022 Taos compact cross-country. It was also reported to have received cash incentives, low APR deals and a competitive starting MSRP at $22,995 before hitting dealer lots in June. Automotive News reports that Volkswagen of America sold 4,939 Taos units in its first month of dealer sales.
However, early Taos buyers, especially those with the 4Motion all wheel-drive system, have a problem with their SUVs suddenly shutting down when they come to a stop, Automotive News reports.
Mark Gillies, spokesperson for VW, confirmed that the news was received by the publication. VW dealers across the US were informed about the issue this week. Gillies stated that VW is now meeting the NHTSA reporting deadlines. At this point, the company isn’t aware of any injuries.
Customers reported the problem. VW is working on a solution, but a repair is not possible at this time. We expect the company to reach out to Taos AWD customers, but in the meantime VW dealers will be notified not to sell the Taos trim.
For an additional premium, all Volkswagen trims can be equipped with the 4Motion AWD technology. Front-wheel-drive models come with an 8-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel-drive models have a 7-speed DSG dual clutch gearbox.
All trims are powered by the 1.5-liter turbocharged turbocharged 158-horsepower (118 kilowatt) engine. EPA-estimated fuel efficiency figures are out. The FWD Taos is rated at 28 mpg city, 36 mpg Highway, and 31 mpg together. AWD models are rated at 25 mpg in the city, 32 highway mpg, and 28 combined mpg.
