Hot hatches have been around for over 45 years.
The Volkswagen GTI45 edition is revealed in leaked photos. This model celebrates the 45th anniversary since the hot hatch was first launched in Europe in 1976.
The 45 edition features the same front fascia design as the GTI Clubsport but with a prominent splitter. The wheels are multi-spoke and black with a red stripe around their rims. The sills on the sides are wider and there is a decal that runs along the flank at the lower edge with a logo indicating “45” just before the rear wheels.
The back has a revised lower fascia. A portion of it is body color. The exhaust pipes are circular and have a dark finish.
According to reports, inside the modifications include sports seats with the 45 badge.
Auto Express We wouldn’t be surprised to find some tartan fabric, even if it wasn’t a standard feature, given its connection to the GTI’s past.
It is not known whether the 45 edition will use either the standard GTI (or the more powerful Clubsport) as its base. Regular version has 242 horsepower (181 kilowatts), and 273 pound feet (370 Newton-meters). Clubsport increases the horsepower to 296 HP (221 kW) or 295 lb-ft (405 Nm).
It’s possible that the 45 edition will have suspension and brake tweaks to increase its appeal to potential buyers. This vehicle is not just about changing the body kit, wheels and exhaust.
The availability of the GTI 45 edition in the US is not known. For the 2022 model year , the standard GTI (and Golf R) will be available in America. The hot hatch may arrive in America depending on when this variant is launched, but that’s far from certain.
