Some are from older models, such as Mars Red from the first-gen GTI.
The Volkswagen Golf R currently comes in five colors in the USA, but there are 40 more options for the 2019 model year. This is part of what the company refers to as the Volkswagen Spektrum Program. The hot hatch’s bottom line will be $2,500 more if you choose one of these vibrant hues. Below is a picture of the available color spectrum.
Some colors are inspired by other VW’s, such as Deep Blue Pearl from fourth- and fifth-generation Golf R32s, Ginster Yellow from 1997 Driver’s Edition GTIs, and Mars Red from original GTI. Viper Green Metallic is also available on the Lamborghini Uracan. Some hues are simply called Nogaro Blue Pearl or Violet Touch Metallic, Caribbean Green, or Copper Orange Metallic. A Golf R would allow buyers to express their style by choosing a color like teal, purple, or burnt orange.
VW will soon have an online configurator for the 2019 Golf R. It’ll allow anyone who is interested to paint the hot hatch in any of the 40 new colors, as well as the ability to spin it 360 degrees. A color sample kit with all hues will be available at dealers for interested buyers. These Golf Rs are custom ordered by the company and require two to four months for delivery.
The Golf R’s price range offers only 45 color options. Paint-to-order options are available from high-end automakers such as Porsche and Ferrari, but they can be expensive.
The 2019 Golf R still produces 292 horsepower (217 Kilowatts) as well as 280 pound-feet (379 Newton-meters), of torque from the 2.0-liter turbocharged motor. You can choose from a 6-speed manual or an optional seven-speed dual clutch automatic.
