The eighth generation Volkswagen Golf was speculatively rendered before a confirmed reveal at the end of next.
The next Golf’s design is likely to be completed already so Walter de Silva’s decision to resign as Head of Group Design won’t have any impact on the new model, which is expected to debut in late 2016. Although it will be called “Golf VIII”, it won’t be a new car. It will be essentially a facelifted version the Golf VII, much like the sixth- and fifth-gen duos.
The VAG’s design is becoming more angular every day. This will likely happen to the new Golf, which will only be an evolution of the existing model with a focus on sharper lines. Don’t be surprised if the actual Golf will share a lot with our rendering.
It is unlikely that the car’s dimensions will change due to the facelift. However, Volkswagen plans to make significant changes inside. The touchscreen displays will replace many of the traditional buttons and knobs, while the instrument cluster will become fully digital. This layout is based on the Golf R Touch. The driver will also be able to use gesture controls. These will likely be an option as the range is unlikely to have the same tech.
The next-generation/facelifted Golf could be introduced by VW at the Paris Motor Show in October 2016. Sales are expected to begin around the end of 2016 or early 2017. The MQB-based siblings, the Audi A3 and Seat Leon, will be updated at the same time. Sales could kick off by the end of 2016 or early 2017.
