The livestream begins at 8 AM Eastern/ 12 PM GMT/ 2 PM CEST.
Volkswagen will soon unveil its third model in the ID lineup, which is reserved for electric vehicles. The larger ID.6 SUV joins the ID.3 SUV and ID.3 coupe . This SUV was revealed at the 2019 Auto Shanghai. The production sibling will also be on display at the same China show, where the three-row EV is exclusive for the first time.
Although VW has not completely dismissed the possibility of bringing ID.6 to the United States it will be a China-only affair at the moment. Similar to the smaller ID.4, the ID.6 will be made available in the People’s Republic as two distinct versions. Each version will be manufactured by local joint ventures of FAW and SAIC. Today’s unveiling of the ID.6X and ID.6Crozz will reveal two versions with slightly different designs. Both models are free from sliding doors and feature almost identical mechanicals.
VW has not been forthcoming with details about its new electric SUV. However, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in China has provided the details. The MIIT homologated the ID.6 earlier this year, publishing full-length images and a detailed specs sheet on its publicly accessible website.
The wheelbase was extended by 200 millimeters (a little over 7.9 in) to accommodate the third row. It is now 2,965 mm (116.7in) longer than the ID.4. The ID.6 measures nearly 300mm (11.8 inches) longer than its SUV brother, the 5,876mm (192 in). We expect the increased footprint to cause it to be heavier which will have an impact on performance and efficiency.
The ID.6 version, which was published on the MIIT website, had the same rear-wheel drive layout as the ID.4 and ID.3, with a single electric motor generating 201 horsepower. We expect the dual-motor, all wheel-drive configuration of the ID.4 GTX, which will produce 300 horsepower.
The ID.6 might not make it to the US, but another electric people-mover from VW is already confirmed to be coming to the US. The much-hyped ID Buzz is a modern Microbus with an electric twist. It will be released in Europe next year, followed by a North American launch.
