At least five core members will make up the ID family.
The Volkswagen Group presented its new strategy yesterday. It made several key announcements. The automaker will continue to invest in the development, production, and sale of electric vehicles. A few new products were also confirmed, including an electric SUV that is large and unique.
Herbert Diess, Chairman of VAG’s Board of Management used LinkedIn earlier today to share his speech at the New Auto strategy presentation. On page 10, you will find the confirmation that the Volkswagen brand will launch an Atlas-sized, battery-powered sports utility car. The vehicle, dubbed the ID.8, will likely be built on the MEB platform. However, VW is unlikely to give more details at this time. Volkswagen is expanding its ID family of electric vehicles with the new, larger, three-row model. The ID.3 was the first ID model, and it is the modern-day, zero emission Golf equivalent. Next came the ID.4 which is roughly the same size as today’s Tiguan. Volkswagen claims that it now has a model which is comparable to the Passat in terms size and the ID.8 should be the largest ID vehicle.
Although the Wolfsburg-based manufacturer isn’t willing to disclose much, the presentation suggests that the new ID.8 model will be a global one. The ID Buzz will be the next electric vehicle to replace the Volkswagen Transporter, according to Diess. VW is confident that it will have the most complete EV product range in the market once all IDs have been launched.
