VW envisions that the Space Vizzion will be available with either rear- or all-wheel drive.
The Volkswagen ID. The Space Vizzion Concept is rolled into the Los Angeles Auto Show. This concept previews the future electrification of the range. The company showcases a stylish wagon with a low drag coefficient of 0.24. This allows for long-distance cruising at a maximum of 367 miles (560 km) in the WLTP cycle and 300 miles (483 km) in EPA testing.
The Space Vizzion, like other electric VWs in the future, rides on the MEB platform. The back wheels are driven by a rear-mounted, electric motor of 275 horsepower (205 kW). VW suggests that a third motor could be added to the rear wheels to produce a total power output of 355 horsepower (265 kW). The all-wheel-drive version can reach 60 mph (96 km/h) in just five seconds and has an electronically limited top speed limit of 109 mph (175 km/h).
Space Vizzion is similar to the ID family of concepts, but it has a smaller grille and openings under the hood. The EV doesn’t require a radiator. There are also LED strips that extend from the front to wrap around the sides. It also illuminates VW’s logo.
The Space Vizzion follows the current trend of removing door handles at the sides of its vehicle. The exterior has surfaces that glow when people touch them. Rear hatchbacks work in the same way and open electrically.
The Space Vizzion’s interior has a small screen in front the driver, but the majority of the information is on the augmented reality head up display. The center console has a 15.6-inch touchscreen. Apple Skin is a blend of recycled apple waste and 20% polyurethane used for the interior upholstery.
VW has made it clear that the ID is not for sale. Space Vizzion shows a preview for a production model that could be made in North America and Europe.
