Volkswagen Tayron to Replace Seven-Seat Tiguan Allspace in Europe

Volkswagen Tayron to Replace Seven-Seat Tiguan Allspace in Europe

It will be constructed in Germany, according to internal documents.

Tha lineup of Volkswagen in Chinese is quite complex due to joint ventures with SAIC/FAW that have resulted in many models not available outside of China. The Advance Mid-Size SUV Concept showed the Tayron in March 2018. It is one of the few China-only vehicles. But it may not be for very long. According to a new report, the MQB-based SUV is expected to be introduced in Europe within the next few years.

Automotive News Europe managed to obtain an internal VW document which states that a large seven-seat SUV would be built at the Wolfsburg factory. The model was originally sent to local workers and then obtained by ANE. It states that the new SUV could replace seven-seat Tiguan Allspace.
It shouldn’t surprise that the Tayron is Euro-bound. Rumours about the vehicle eventually reaching the Old Continent are well-known since the Advance Mid-Size SUV Concept was revealed. ANE claims that production in Germany is set to begin in 2024. This would indicate that the SUV will be built on the Tayron’s next-generation.

VW reportedly made this decision to create a European-only SUV that can be used between the Tiguan or Touareg, rather than import a stretched version from Mexico. It’s unlikely that it will be a carbon copy CN-spec Tayron. VW plans to modify the SUV to suit European tastes. The Chinese Tharu is a relevant example, and it is slightly different from the Taos recently launched in the United States.

The Tayron will not be the only SUV made by VW for Europe. South America’s Nivus will be constructed in Pamplona (Spain) starting 2021.
