At 15 Starbucks locations, you can get up to 60 chargers
Volvo, Starbucks have teamed up to establish the first electric vehicle charging network at Starbucks’ stores across the United States. The fast-charging network, powered by ChargePoint will feature 60 Volvo-branded chargers at as many as 15 Starbucks locations. The first phase of the project will begin in the summer. It will include the installation of chargers along a 1,350-mile route between Denver and Starbucks’ headquarters in Seattle.
It’s simple, but smart. You can charge your electric vehicle in as little as 40 minutes by using a fast-charging station. The new DC stations at Starbucks locations allow you to relax while your car recharges. Volvo will have a charging station approximately every 100 miles. This is within the reach of modern electric cars.
You can use the ChargePoint app to locate the nearest charging station at a Starbucks participating location if you own an all-electric Volvo. Volvo owners can use the charging stations at no charge or at preferential rates while all other EV drivers will have to pay a fee. For now, there is no information available about charging rates.
“Volvo wants people to be able to move freely and reduce their environmental impact,” Anders Gustafsson (Sr. Vice President Americas, President and CEO of Volvo Car USA), explains. “Working with Starbucks, we can accomplish that by providing them with places to relax and recharge their cars while they work.”
The Swedish automaker expects to start installing the DC chargers in the summer and have them installed by the end the year. Volvo wants EV owners to have the ability to travel between the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and the Pacific Northwest by charging their devices at Starbucks locations.
Volvo’s global strategy calls for the company to sell only battery-powered cars by 2020. It currently works on several electric vehicles, including , a small crossover electric vehicle that was developed with Polestar.
