A fantastic “what if?” GTI.
Sometimes car companies don’t go in the right direction that enthusiasts would prefer. Manufacturers would rather satisfy the majority of buyers than the enthusiasts, since they make up such a small portion of potential buyers. Sometimes, a car can be both appealing to the average consumer and providing a satisfying driving experience. The original is a classic example.
Volkswagen Golf Mk1 This was practicality at the same as it was the foundation for the iconic GTI . The Golf was created to replace the Volkswagen Beetle. It was an expression of times. People wanted affordable cars and the oil crisis in the 70s didn’t help.
What if the Volkswagen Beetle continued to be a small car? What if VW’s head honchos and the market decided that the Beetle would continue to be the small car of choice into the 1970s? To satisfy those looking for greater performance, a Beetle GTI is certain to be in development. This is exactly what Abimelec Designs has done with this amazing render.
This Volkswagen Beetle GTI retains all the characteristics and cues of the original Bug. It uses an Audi Sport turbocharged 1.6-liter engine and sports twin carbs. It produces an estimated 100 horsepower. This is a lot for a car that weighs in at less than 1,900 pounds. However, it has the potential to match or exceed the Golf GTI in certain cases. You get air-cooled but wider tires and a tweaked suspension. GTI sports disc brakes are all around, along with a brake regulator, for more stopping power.
It comes with a GTI livery, and can be customized with a variety of colors. For more information and cool renderings, visit Abimelec Design’s Facebook page.
