A Volkswagen 550bhp racing car, waiting to make its mark at the 41st Tecate SCORE Baja 1000.
Today, Volkswagen displayed a Red Bull Baja Race Touareg TDI Trophy Truck that was purpose-built. This truck will be entered in this year’s Annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000. It is now in its 41st anniversary. It qualifies for the SCORE Trophy Truck category and is powered with a 5.5-liter V12 clean Diesel engine. The vehicle produces 550 horsepower and 625 lb.-ft of torque. All that power and twisting force is persuading a vehicle that weighs in at 2.5 tons.
This off-road beast features a double-A-Arm front suspension with a 4-link back suspension. It also has Fox Racing Shocks and Eibach Coils. The front suspension has a 25-inch wheel travel and the rear allows for 30 inches. The car measures 213 inches long, 92 inches wide, and has a total height of 78 inches. It also has a 125 inch wheelbase.
The truck was designed by the Volkswagen Design Center in Santa Monica. The truck is loosely inspired by the Volkswagen Touareg that was also displayed at the 2008 LA Auto Show. It has been approved in all 50 states as a 3.0-liter V6-TDI. According to EPA, this road-going version can travel approximately 600 miles without a tank.
