VW Golf Alltrack – First Look Oh-So Predictable

Bonus: We also have spy photos of the regular wagon.

America, look away! These two will be forbidden fruits. After the 2019 model year, the previous SportWagens and Alltracks departed and will not be seen again on American soil with the eighth generation. The two wagons will soon be officially launched in Europe and elsewhere where Volkswagen long-roof Golfs will be sold.

The regular model was only caught in Mk7-esque camouflage on its taillights. However, the rugged version had more. The camouflage on the front bumper and lower portion of the rear bumper is a bit odd, but it doesn’t hide anything. The plastic body cladding can be clearly seen on the wheel arches, as well as the raised suspension for greater ground clearance.

VW applied mascara to the headlights for some reason. However, we expect them to look almost the same as the rest of the Golfs. To confirm that we are dealing with the crossover-inspired compact wagon, you can see the “Alltrack badge” on the front fender.

The Golf Alltrack will be available with top-tier gasoline or diesel engines, as well as an automatic transmission and standard 4Motion. It will be interesting for Skoda to decide whether VW will offer the adventurous wagon with a front wheel-drive layout, as is the case with the mechanically related Octavia Scout.

VW will unveil both versions of the Golf wagon by the end of 2019. With the addition of GTI TCR hot hatchbacks and the R hot hatchbacks, the family will grow even more in 2020. We are hopeful that the Golf R wagon will be reborn, given that there is a Tiguan R and Touareg R versions.

The old model was available as an R model as well as a GTD with a powerful diesel engine on the Old Continent. As part of VW’s plans to electrify their lineup, a GTE-badged Golf wagon will likely be produced with the powertrain from Octavia RS iV.
