The battle for go-fast, nonR Golfs is on.
The Volkswagen Golf range is a versatile vehicle. It was once the most popular German marque, but it was soon overtaken by the Tiguan. The Golf range is now in its eighth generation. It still offers GTI variants, which are a kind of mid-tier performance level for those who don’t want to jump to the more expensive Golf R.
There are many options within the Golf GTI range. There are the GTI standard, the GTI-fed GTD, GTI Clubsport, GTI-powered GTD and GTE plug-in hybrids.
carwow UK compares these GTI derivatives and holds a drag racing without the electrified GTE. It’s essentially a battle between drivers and numbers. The 2.0-liter engine has the same displacement and transmission. It also produces 295 pound-feet (400 Newton meters) of torque. Important to mention that the GTI Clubsport uses a different set rubber which can impact traction.
The GTI Clubsport produces 296 horsepower (221 megawatts) and the gasoline mill makes 221 kilowatts. The standard Golf GTI produces 242 horsepower (180 kW), but the GTD makes 197 horsepower (147 kW) using an oil burner.
As I mentioned above, weight is important. The standard GTI weighs in at 3,192 lbs (1,448 kg). The GTD, with its smallest engine, is the most powerful of all three. It weighs in at 3,230 lbs (1.465 kg).
These numbers will tell you the outcome of this race. The driver will ultimately decide the outcome. You can see the video at the top of this page.
