VW Golf GTI GTI Crash at 149 MPH Could’ve Ended Much Worse

Take precautions out there

It is no surprise that the German Autobahn is one the most admired motoring marvels in the world. Even non-petroheads will probably know what you mean when you refer to the ribbon of asphalt. YouTuber Carpool Of Eren captured the crash that was caused by an important issue on the road: the massive closing speeds between fast and slow lanes.

It is almost inevitable that such a large number of cars in a single place at different speeds creates unique challenges. Traffic is quieter than normal due to Covid-19, but accidents still happen.

It’s obvious that the driver was merely going about his business in the fast lane. He was cruising to his destination and then decided to change lanes with him. Although we don’t have the Autobahn’s exact rules and regulations, it is clear that dashcams are a big help in filing insurance claims.

The driver’s catlike reflexes, car control, and ability to maintain the vehicle straight throughout the encounter were a credit to his driving skills. We’d also wager that stability control and anti lock braking played a part. The passenger side panels took a beating, but it is clear that the car is still in good condition and that the driver is fine.

This raises the question of whether autonomous driving systems or other safety aids could have prevented this crash. Humans are amazing creatures. But one thing is certain. Humans will always make mistakes.
