VW GTI BBS Concept gives golf a retro revamp with gold wheels

The GTI is given a touch of nostalgia

Although the Volkswagen Golf GTI has seen a lot of changes since its conception, the car’s core attributes and fundamental character have remained the same. Although the Mk 8 generation is the most recent iteration, a new concept brings it back to its roots. It combines elements from the Mk 2 Golf of the mid-1980s and today’s technology-packed offering into the GTI BBS Concept. You even get gold wheels.

This concept is entirely visual. The Mk 8 GTI’s powerful powertrain, which is the most powerful ever, has not changed. The turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder produces the same 241 horsepower (170 Kilowatts), and 272 pound feet (370 Newton-meters), of torque. Borla exhaust was the only performance upgrade. It likely improved the sound quality and increased the output of the engine.

Although the visual changes are not significant, they give the hot hatch a retro feel, particularly the bright-gold 19-inch BBS Super RS tires, which have the iconic BBS waffle pattern and hex pattern. They are wrapped in Delinte 35/19 D7 tires. Although the wheels are striking, there are some minor adjustments. Thanks to some custom parts and H&R coil-overs, the car has been lowered. GTI adjusts camber thanks to the modified suspension.

Package includes a vintage red and black livery on the hood, as well as a red-and–black pinstripe along the sides of the car. The car inside is the same as stock. The retro-inspired hot hatch is easy to climb inside. While the Mk 8 GTI is not to be confused with the Mk 2 GTI, Volkswagen has done an amazing job of keeping the GTI true to its roots. With a few design tweaks, the most powerful version of the GTI is now available.
