VW ID.4 GTX Sits Silently at Its Top Speed on The Autobahn

Although it’s not a supercar, the future is certainly not slow.

We are used to electric cars being featured in headlines for incredible acceleration stats. One could even say that the automotive community has become numb to electric vehicle performance. Remember that, just as with internal combustion power engines, some machines can go at a high speed, while the majority of the world lives in a slower pace.
While the Volkswagen ID.4 is certainly less dramatic, the EV version of is still quite entertaining. This Automann TV video features the GTX model packing front and rear motors that produce 295 horsepower (219kilowatts) and it is able to get up to speed on all sections of German Autobahn. The VW ID.4 GTX claims it can reach 60 mph in just 6.2 seconds. We see this in the follow-up acceleration test. Although it’s not a record, this 2.5-ton crossover is able to get up to speed.

Volkswagen claims that the ID.4 GTX can reach a maximum speed of 180 km/h (112 miles per hour). This clip shows the VeeDub achieving an indicated top speed at 185 km/h (115mph) on an unrestricted highway. Although it won’t beat the Porsche Cayenne’s record at Nurburgring this VeeDub is still a good everyday car with five seats and a 300-mile range of electric power. You can reduce the 300-mile range by slapping the throttle in this manner. Our InsideEVs colleagues recently reported that an ID.4 GTX range testing returned 283 miles at 90 km/h (56 MPH). This is close to the WLTP rating but at 120 km/h (75 mph), the range drops down to 205 mi.
