The grille is actually a sticker.
The Volkswagen has not been forthcoming with any information regarding the ID.5 GTX. This is a more sporty version of the HTML4. The ID.5 GTX concept displayed its colorful body at the IAA in Munich in September. The production version will likely be a carbon copy without the multi-colored body wrap.
Nevertheless, public sightings have been rare of test vehicles. We last saw an Prototype ID.5 in April It was actually wearing the exact same camouflage that we see today. We mean that the large sticker on its forehead resembles a grille and would be easily convincing to an average person. Two sets of spy photos taken at the
NurburgringWe aren’t just getting a glimps images confirmed that the production car would be very similar to the concept. We can see the same vertically-oriented vents in the corners and a single mesh intake down low, despite the hardcovering of the lower fascia. Although it is possible that the intake does not span the fascia, we aren’t surprised by it.
The rear may have some differences between production and concept. The rear fascia detail is completely hidden by the black test car. However, the taillights are identical to the ID.5 GTX concept. VW has finally removed the fake exhaust stickers we saw in April. After all, this is an electric performance vehicle. Enjoy the silence.
The GTX suffix will play a similar role in VW’s electrified lineup to what GTI does for internal-combustion vehicles. The ID.5 GTX will share a powertrain, including an all-wheel-drive version that can produce 295 horsepower (220kilowatts) combined. Although it’s not as fast as the Tesla Model 3 and Mustang Mach–E, the powertrain can propel the ID.4 from 0 to 60 mph in just 6.2 seconds. The ID.5 GTX is a fun machine to throw around. It has a balanced weight and tuned suspension.
Although we have seen the ID.5 concept, VW is unlikely to launch the production model before 2022.
