Electric off-roaders don’t exist.
The possibility of a production Volkswagen ID Buggy was always a doubtful prospect because it was such an exclusive product. The VW CEO Brandstatter confirmed that the rugged model was not coming to fruition. “No, this car is not for us. “We had a partner but it didn’t work out,” Brandstatter said to Autocar.
Two electric motors powered the Buggy concept. Each motor produced 201 horsepower (149 Kilowatts) as well as 258 pound-feet (349 Newton meters) of torque. The range of a 62-kilowatt hour lithium-ion battery was estimated to be 155 miles (249 km).
VW had intended to collaborate with e.Go Mobile in order to develop the Buggy, a niche vehicle that is low-volume. Sadly, e.Go Mobile filed for bankruptcy and the plans to continue the collaboration were canceled. VW started to think of a mainstream electric crossover that was still off-road-oriented after the project ended. The company planned to launch the vehicle in 2023 under the name Ruggdzz. This undertaking has been rescheduled by the execs.
Brandstatter said that he had put the item in a drawer. It isn’t to say that it won’t get built, but I doubt you’ll be able to see it anytime soon. There are more important projects in the pipeline.”
The VW ID Buzz van is still available in 2022. It has retro styling that was inspired by the Transporter’s first two generations. According to Brandstatter, the model is a “halo car” for the brand.
