Volkswagen cranks up the heat on the electric avenue
It is no surprise that Volkswagen has been focusing on electric vehicles. The ID.R’s record-setting performance and the ongoing research and development have now been transferred to Volkswagen’s road vehicles. The latest IDSpace Vizzion from the German automaker is due in 2023. It has a 435-mile range, and a spacious interior.
Although photos of the interior are limited, a quick look at the cockpit shows that there has been a significant improvement in comforts. Ralf Brandstatter was the Chief Executive Officer at Volkswagen Passenger Cars. He described the cabin as elegant and spacious, similar to the VW Phaeton, the German automaker’s latest attempt at a luxury vehicle with unlimited capabilities.
Although powertrain specifications have yet to be revealed, the AeroB concept car shows that it will come with a 111-kilowatt hour battery pack. The concept car was equipped with a 272-horsepower (202-kilowatts), electric motor at its rear axle. However, VW claims it is possible to mount a motor at its front to increase the power to 360 hp (268kW).
The ID Space Vizzion is described as a blend of Gran Turismo’s aerodynamic qualities and the SUV-like space. It has all the ingredients to become a huge success. The Coronavirus pandemic shattered the plans of the German automaker to make it debut in 2021. Although it was disappointing for those who were planning to purchase one, VW is still confident and has set a goal to sell more than 1 million e-cars before 2025.
