The Volkswagen Nivus was first teased in December 2013. It is now just hours away from its official debut. You can view the livestream here. The ceremony will begin at 14:00 GMT.
It’s another Volkswagen crossover, for those who don’t know what it is. It was designed and developed in Brazil by the South American teams of the German company. The vehicle will go on sale in Brazil in June.
After the Brazilian VW dealers have it, VW will attempt to export the coupe-like crossover to Europe. The vehicle will soon be available in other Latin American markets by the end.
It’s like a Polo on stilts. The Nivus will be similar in footprint to the Polo hatchback, but it will pack a 415 liter (14.7 cubic foot) cargo volume. This is a significant improvement on the Polo’s 285 Liters (10.1-cubic feet) luggage capacity. The Nivus might be more appealing to smaller families.
The MQB platform will be used to build the Nivus. It is the basis of dozens of Volkswagen models across the globe. The MQB platform will be used for the crossover. It will only use a 1.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that generates 128 horsepower (94 Kilowatts) & 148 pound-feet (220 Newton-meters). The engine will be mated with a six-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the front wheels. VW’s all-wheel-drive 4Motion will not be available.
