VW Credit customers may get up to six months of payment waivers
Volkswagen is like other automakers in looking to help those who have been negatively affected by the coronavirus virus pandemic. German automaker Volkswagen is trying to help people who are losing their jobs. The company today announced that it would waive car payments up to six months for people who have lost their jobs as a result of the coronavirus. It also offered a new financing program for all certified pre-owned VW models.
VW will offer a $750 per month relief for up to six months. However, there are some restrictions. Customers who have received unemployment benefits and purchased a Volkswagen Credit vehicle. New York is not eligible for the program. The unemployment must be caused by economic factors within the first 90 days of ownership. The person seeking relief must have worked full-time for at most 12 consecutive weeks prior to the unemployment.
Volkswagen also offers a new program that makes it easier to purchase pre-owned VW models. It provides zero-percent APR financing for 60 month for most models, and is available to qualified customers. The incentive will be available until June 30, 2020 by VW. VW earlier announced that new qualified buyers could receive a 180-day delay on their first month’s payments. For most new VW vehicles, zero-percent APR is available up to 72 months.
Scott Keogh (president and CEO of VW Group of America), said that “this global pandemic, and the economic uncertainty that followed it, has many of us facing hard choices and we don’t want to purchase a new vehicle as one of them.” VW Credit customers are encouraged to review their accounts to find additional relief options. This includes deferring payments up to 90 days without penalty. Other automakers offer their own relief programs for existing and new customers.
