VW’s TDI is back
VW claims that the Twin-Dosing system reduces NOx emissions up to 80 percent, which results in a cleaner engine. VW explains this system in a press release. “A metering module injects substance into exhaust gas upstream the relevant SCR catalyst as AdBlue. The solution evaporates here and the reducing agent (urea), is broken down. This then reacts with steam to create ammonia. The ammonia reacts with the nitrogen oxides in the catalytic converter to create water and harmless nitrogen.
VW believes that the EA 288 EVO engine is going to offer customers all the benefits of the TDI engines without the harmful emissions. Markus Kohne, Head Diesel Engine Development, says: “The innovative twin dosing technology that we have developed means our diesel engines are substantially below current limits, and in fact, well below future limits under the Euro 6d emissions standard in many measurements done by independent institutes. They are also extremely efficient and powerful, and produce a lot of torque. This makes them a better choice for the environment. This is something we are very proud of.
