Volkswagen has many amenities inside, including a digital instrument panel as well as inductive charging.
Volkswagen finally enters the compact crossover market with the official introduction of the T-Roc. The CUV is now positioned below the Tiguan.
The T-Roc is a stylish entry in the compact crossover market. The front ends feature a wide, hexagonal grille that incorporates headlights into the corners. The front fascia features LED running lights that add style and ruggedness. The vehicle’s profile is enhanced by chrome strips. Buyers can choose from a variety of colors including Pure White Uni, Black Oak Brown Metallic, or Deep Black. This will give the roof a unique look that matches the rest the body. The styling is enhanced by the thick rear pillar, which adds weight. The heavily creased tail makes for interesting visuals from the back. The T-Roc is 166.7 inches in length (4,234 milimeters), which is 9.9 inches (252 mm shorter than a Tiguan). The wheelbase of the model is 102.5 inches (2,603 mm). The cargo space inside the model is 15.72 cubic feet (445 Liters) at the rear and 45.56 cubic feet (1.290 Liters) when the seats are folded. If buyers select the right options, the T-Roc cabin can be very high-tech. An 11.7-inch digital display for the instrument panel can replace traditional analog gauges. Standard infotainment systems measure 6.5 inches. Customers can upgrade to an 8-inch display. Comfort packs are available that include inductive charging for digital devices, and an 8-channel, 300-watt stereo.
T-Roc arrives first in Europe, and VW has so far only released technical details. There are many options for buyers. A 1.0-liter TSI gasoline-fueled unit has 114 horsepower (85 Kilowatts) as well as a six-speed manual driving its front wheels. The 1.5 TSI has 148 hp (110 kW). You can choose from a six-speed manual transmission driving the front axle, or a seven speed dual-clutch transmission with all- or front-wheel drive. The 2.0 TSI produces 188 hp (140 kW), and is available with all-wheel drive as well as the dual-clutch box. European buyers can choose from a variety of diesel-powered engines. A 1.6-liter engine with 114 horsepower (85 kW) is the base model. It also has a six-speed manual and front drive. The 2.0-liter produces 148 horsepower (110 kW). Customers have the option to choose whether the six-speed manual transmission or the seven-speed dual clutch transmission drive the front axle only or all-wheel drive. The 2.0 TDI’s tune has 188 hp (140 kW), and the seven-speed DSG. All-wheel drive is also available.
The T-Roc will be available in Europe by the end of this year. However, there are rumors that the North American launch won’t take place until the 2019 model year. People in the U.S. won’t likely have as many powertrain options and there will not be any diesel-powered powerplants. T-Roc will be making its public debut at September’s Frankfurt Motor Show. Motor1’s live coverage will show you live shots of this little crossover. The livestream can be viewed above.
