VW Teases ID.4 GTX with Some Details Days before Debut

The performance-oriented EV debuts on April 28.

Volkswagen has been electrifying its lineup since last week. This is a good thing, considering the goal of 20 EVs by 2025. The three-row Volkswagen ID.6 was shown in Shanghai last week. Now it is time to see the US performance version of the ID.4 electric crossover. Or at least wait a few days.

VW teases the forthcoming ID.4 GTX via Twitter, along with an accompanying video that provides some details about the performance crossover.

The teaser video began with the LED headlights on the ID.4 GTX. This isn’t any different to the regular Volkswagen ID.4. It then moved on to the taillights, which have the fancy sequential effect when they are turned on. The red-stitched leather, which is likely to be found on the GTX’s dashboard, was then revealed by the car’s bumper intakes. The quick 15 second footage was completed with a complete view of the 3D taillights.

The teaser also showed the combined power consumption for the ID.4 GTX and NEDC at 19.8 to 18.1 kilowatts per 100 km or 3.1 to 3.4 miles per kilowatt hour when converted. The regular ID.4 took in a mere 2.9 miles per hour during our first driver review. This was when the vehicle was used in comfort mode for an 80-mile test.

For a while, we have known some details about ID.4 GTX. It will be less powerful than the standard ID.4, but it will offer better performance and AWD. It is expected to go from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h), in 6.2 seconds. This is almost 2.3 seconds faster than the regular ID.4.

We will be able to learn more about the details in the coming days. VW will reveal the ID.4 GTX via live stream on April 28, 2021. Keep checking our website for the latest news.
