At the 2019 New York Auto Show, the Basecamp concept was unveiled.
On November 25, Volkswagen filed a request to trademark Basecamp’s name in the United States. Carbuzz was the first to find the filing.
This could indicate that Volkswagen is planning to make the Atlas Basecamp concept (pictured below) into production. The model was unveiled at the 2019 New York Auto Show. It is a more rugged, off-road-oriented variant of VW’s seven seat crossover. To create the machine, the automaker collaborated with APR.
The Atlas Basecamp concept features a matte gray body and orange highlights. It is equipped with fifteen52 Traverse MX Concept wheels and 17-inch all-terrain tires. The crossover has a roof rack and an LED light bar at the front.H&R lift kits, which raises the ride height 1.5 inches, are the major mechanical modifications to this concept. The 3.6-liter VR6 engine produces 276 horsepower (206kilowatts). It can be switched between an 8-speed automatic and an all-wheel drive system.
Basecamp even comes with its own trailer that is ready to go off-road. It includes a queen-sized bed, a kitchen, and water tanks and propane tanks.VW will introduce a new Atlas model for the 2021 model-year. There are expected exterior styling changes, as well as a new 8-inch infotainment screen and improvements in driver assistance tech. The company has not yet provided any information about powertrain changes.
