Volkswagen’s most popular motorhome now has a digital cluster of instruments.
The Volkswagen California is the camper version of the brand’s adaptable Transporter van. These teaser images give us a first glimpse at the upcoming 6.1 update. The Caravan-Salon in Dusseldorf, Germany will be the venue for the full debut.
California 6.1 now has an optional digital instrument panel. This is the first time this technology has been added to this model. A digital display is also available on the multifunctional camper control unit. The updated infotainment system includes an integrated eSIM, which allows you to connect to online services. Driver assistance tech also gets an update with new features such as side-wind compensation and trailer assist.
You have many options to customize your transporter.
The California 6.1 will come with several tunes for the 2.0-liter turbodiesel four cylinder VW. The top trim will have 196 horsepower (146kilowatts). The hydraulically-assist system will be replaced by electro-mechanical power steering.
The updated California will have a new look from the Transportation 6.1. The new design features a sharper look and LED headlights. The van’s original look is maintained in the rest of its styling.
The California 6.1 is not expected to be made available in America like the pre-refresh model. People in the U.S. who want a VW van need to wait until the production I.D. Buzz will arrive in 2022.
VW claims that the California is the world’s most popular camper vehicle, with over 18,000 units being sold annually. The company’s production of the 100,000th unit at its Hannover-Limmer plant was a highlight in 2018. Since 1950, the production of all variants of Transporter has reached approximately 12 million units.
