VW Transporter T7 Spied – Here’s Your First View

Under the familiar skin is a new MQB-based bus.

Volkswagen is said to be developing an autonomous version the Transporter van with Apple. However, this doesn’t mean that the German company hasn’t already started work on a new generation conventional driver-operated bus. The company’s first spy photos show that the T7 development is still in its early stages. They are still using mules rather than prototypes with production bodies.

This is why Volkswagen doesn’t bother to use camouflage. The T7 was seen here with German plates. It is a passenger Caravelle version, with a TDI engine. All-wheel drive. The badges at the back indicate that the T7 is a passenger Caravelle version with a TDI engine and an all-wheel drive. However, you should not overlook the possibility of fake badges.

The Transporter, which is still available in passenger and cargo versions today, is a heavily modified and facelifted version of the T5, but the new model will be built on Volkswagen’s MQB platform. This will result in significant weight reductions and better body rigidity.

It’s hard to predict the future design changes to the T7 at this early stage. However, it is safe to assume that the T7 will benefit greatly from the latest developments in VW’s design department. The new features include a more prominent grille and sleeker headlights. A stylish rear end will feature LED taillights. We expect the interior to be more refined than it is now, and that the higher trim levels will include the virtual cockpit dashboard.

There won’t be any surprises in the engine lineup. The vehicle will still be available with both turbocharged gasoline engines and diesel engines. Customers in Europe prefer the latter. We expect a dual-clutch, automatic gearbox to be available as an option. However, rumors of an electrified version are still being circulated.
