VW’s Project Trinity Electric Vehicle Will Surprisingly Be Cheap

Even with the most advanced technology, it is possible to still afford one.

Volkswagen Project Trinity is a project that aims to create an new model of electric vehicles, as well as a revolutionary production process and autonomous driving technology. Ralf Brandstatter, VW CEO, stated to Germany’s Welt am Sonntag that the model that resulted from this work would cost only 35,000 euros (or $42,300 at current exchange rates). Brandstatter stated to the paper that Project Trinity’s vehicle would be “dynamic and streamlined” with a length just over four metres (157.5 inches). A Tesla Model 3 measures approximately 185 inches (4.699 metres). VW has set a goal to make the model level 3 autonomous. The vehicle can now drive itself in certain conditions, but it still needs to be monitored by an operator.

VW Group CEO Herbert Diess stated in a tweet that Project Trinity would “revolutionize Volkswagen”. Unfortunately, he didn’t give any details on what makes it so special. According to reports, the company will make major upgrades to Wolfsburg’s factory. High-tech manufacturing is being installed by the company. It can make a car in just 10 hours. This is half the time it takes to build a product.

Audi’s Project Artemis, which aims to create an automated electric vehicle, is closely linked to Project Trinity. Brandstatter explained to Welt am Sonntag that although the two projects have different technical platforms, they share the same construction kit, the so-called group backbone. Audi plans to place the Project Artemis vehicle up for sale in 2024. It won’t be the flagship product, as it will not sit above the Q7 or A8. The Munich Motor Show , formerly known as Frankfurt , will host a concept.
