Chicago Bears fans who want a piece in team history might visit the October 25-27 Mecum Auctions where they can bid on Walter “Sweetness”, Payton’s 1979 Porsche 930 Turbo. As Jarrett Payton, Payton’s son, will part with the car, the classic sports car will be on the auction block.

Walter’s Porsche only has 9,950 miles and the interior and exterior look brand new. Upgrades include a Ruf Intercooler. The vehicle also features a four-speed manual transmission and an electric sunroof.

Walter stated in his will that the Porsche would be given to Jarrett when he died. However, Jarrett would have to wait until his 25th Birthday. Walter died on November 1, 1999 at only 45 years old, when Jarrett was just 19. Jarrett waited six more years to have the title transferred into his name. Jarrett has taken care of the vehicle since he took ownership. He only drives it occasionally and keeps it stored.

According to the Mecum listing, Jarrett stated that he heard every story about him and felt that someone would love and cherish the car as he did.

Walter and Walter will be photographed with the car when it is sold at auction. Walter loved cars and motorsports. He had several vehicles in his collection. His health was deteriorating and he sold many vehicles including his Ferrari Testarossa and Nissan 300ZX as well as his Lamborghini Countach.

Walter, however, passed his first sports car to his son.
